The Baker County Planning Department is here to serve you with property services, technical assistance and information. The Planning Department is responsible for implementing Baker County's Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances as well as Oregon Revised Statutes and Administrative Rules when considering proposals to use or develop property.
The Baker County Planning Department oversees all unincorporated areas of Baker County not managed by the federal government. Incorporated cities administer different programs, so if you need contact information for any incorporated city, please follow this link to Oregon Blue Book.
We encourage anyone considering purchasing, dividing or developing property to call or stop in and discuss your plans and options with us. Our staff will be happy to assist you, and may be able to provide valuable information that could save you time and money in the future. Please keep in mind that the Planning Department is responsible for implementing ordinances, statutes and rules, and though we can't approve every request, we strive to provide you with timely, accurate and professionals responses.

What's New in Planning?

  • A New Zoning Ordinance has been proposed for Baker County. The Planning Commission is currently reviewing the draft and accepting public testimony. For more information, please visit the Proposed Zoning Ordinance Page. Based on public testimony, the Planning Commission has made amendments to Chapter 340, Transportation Standards, and Chapter 440, Mineral Extraction. The Board of Commissioners will hold a hearing on the Proposed Zoning Ordinance on June 5 at 10:30 AM in the Commissioner's Chambers of the Baker County Courthouse. All who are interested are welcome to attend. If you would like to submit written testimony on the Ordinance, that testimony is preferred to be submitted by May 15 to give staff and the Board of Commissioners time to review the testimony and look into solutions if needed, but written testimony may be submitted at any time before or during the hearing.

  • Please see Agendas for the full schedule of upcoming Planning Commission meetings.

  • Idaho Power has filed a Notice of Intent to file an application for a 500KV power line with Oregon Department of Energy. The power line would traverse Baker County. To learn more about the proposal, please visit the project website, www.boardmantohemingway.com.
