Fair Housing

Ensuring Equal Opportunities

All Americans are provided protection under the Fair Housing act. This law and its amendments means that no person may be denied housing because of their:
  • Color
  • National origin
  • Disability
  • Race
  • Family status
  • Sex
If a household can otherwise qualifiy for a housing unit, loan, insurance, or most other housing-related transactions, then the law states that they will have equal access to that transaction and cannot be denied access based on their status as a protected class. The purpose of the law is to ensure equal access to housing of choice. The State of Oregon offers additional protections such as:
  • Age
  • Occupation
  • Gender identity
  • Sexual orientation
  • Marital status
  • Source of income
