We at Baker County Planning and Community Development strive to ensure that you are able to utilize your property to meet your needs, under Oregon State law. Our team's principle goal is to serve you with timely, accurate and clear information. We are glad to have the opportunity to work with you. What we do
  • Provide planning and zoning information to the public and other government agencies
  • Provide applications for zoning clearance, building permits, sanitary permits and other development permits
  • Review proposed building, development and other activities for land use compatibility
  • Administer and enforce local and Oregon State land use laws, regulations and ordinances, including the Baker County Comprehensive Plan and Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance
  • Act as staff to the Baker County Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners
  • Review requests and applications for land use actions including partitions, conditional use permits, etc
  • Coordinate with other departments, agencies and officers on matters involving planning and zoning
  • Conduct comprehensive planning studies and research as required by State law and the Comprehensive Plan
  • Work toward improving the quality of life for Baker County and all its citizens and lands, present and future
What we don't do
  • Issue building permits (you need to go to the Baker City Building Department for those after you see us)
  • Change the rules on a whim
  • Treat you any different than we would treat anyone else

We are located in the basement of the County Courthouse in downtown Baker City.
We are open weekdays from 8am to 5pm, but are generally closed for lunch between noon and 1pm.
